Football fans have been slapped with some good news from Cabinet Secretary of Sports, Ababu Namwamba, with his sentiments that KBC will air all 52 matches of the 2023/204 Africa Cup of Nations, which run from 13 January 2024 to 11 February 2024.
“KBC is a premium brand, government will everything to support this brand. Mafans wa soccer, this is it, you don’t have to struggle to watch your favourite football Stars. Just tune in to KBC Channel 1 Live,” CS Namwamba stated.
At the same time, the CS expressed his felicitations sentiments to the entire KBC team, adding that he will do what it takes to support the brand.
Ababu Namwamba also assured football fans that the same matches will also be aired on radio stations under the umbrella of KBC.

The Cabinet Secretary said in his end-year (2023) message that the government spent over KSh 500 million in seeing there is a serious elevation of sports in the country.
He said that the initiative of Talanta Hela, which was rolled out on June 6 2023, has helped when it comes to channelling millions of shillings to the right people who take active roles in sports.
KSh 240 million was directed to the KBC – Football Kenya Federation (FKF) live broadcast while KSh 100 million was used to recognise the legends.
“The historic KSh 240 million to football under the KBC-FKF live broadcast and sponsorship deal guarantees every Kenya Premier league team can Ksh.10 million a season, KSh 100 million Hongera Awards package rewarded to top performers in sports and arts in 2023 alongside Kenyan legends across the sector,” Ababu stated
CS deliberately observed that an allocation of Ksh 267 million was invested in school games, drama, and film festivals.
He cited the football match between St. Anthony School and Dagoreti Boys, an epic match which glued a large of number fans at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County, as a real testimony that there is football growth now going on starting from the grassroots.
” With KSh 267 million invested in the school games, music, drama and film festivals, Kenyans witnessed school competition on a scale never seen before, the climax being the secondary school football extravaganza at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, where their final game was between St. Anthony School and Dagoreti Boys was matched by a mammoth crowd of unprecedented proportions and also beamed on KBC Channel 1,” the CS added.
AFCON prize money
Meanwhile, winners of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023-24 edition will pocket a huge stake after the tournament.
After a 40% increment from the previous Afcon prize money, the tournament winners will pocket KSh 1.2 billion whereas the runners-up will get a hefty pack of KSh 631 million.
This will also see losing semi-finalists getting a total of KSh 394 million at the same time, each of the four quarter-finalists will receive Ksh 206 million
