Nairobi, Kenya, The family of the controversial lady who was brutally murdered and her body dismembered, continue to unmask the chilling information before the unspeakable incident occurred.

The family of departed Rita Waeni Muendo revealed that her father received a text message at around 5 am from her daughter’s number asking for KSh 500,000 as a ransom, in an ultimatum of 24 hours.

Fresh details about Rita Waeni’s death

The family also stated that the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)  student left Syokimau, her aunt’s residence to go and meet a friend.

“On Saturday, 13th January 2024, our daughter Rita Waeni Muendo left her aunt’s residence in Syokimau to meet with a friend. On Sunday, January 14th, at 5.00 am, her father received a message, delivered from her phone number, demanding a ransom of KSh. 500,000 within 24 hours for her release. With this message, the family reported the matter to the police and investigations began,” read the family statement in part

They said that apart from ransom messages, some demands were made too but they failed to tour this avenue.

“Unfortunately, the family did not get further details about the ransom or an opportunity to explore this route. Additionally, some demands were made when she had already been murdered,” the family noted.

The family of Waeni, whose body was found inside a trash bag on Sunday, believe the killer lured her.

They mourn Waeni as a girl of outpouring courtesy, an intellectual, non-negotiable kindness to people and laughter.

As the bafflement and an environment of sorrow to the victim’s family, detectives are yet to find Rita’s remaining body parts clothes and her mobile phone.

A Mozambican passport holder is being held in Kasarani Police Station after a robust interrogation at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following his interception and arrest in the same venue, on Tuesday, January 16 as a suspect in murder case.

Airbnb owner where Waeni was murdered speaks

According to Risper Muthoni, the manager of Airbnb property, the unspeakable episode occurred when the male guest who had booked the room gave back the key early on before disappearing into the air.

Risper stated that the male guest checked into the premises at 3 pm on Saturday, January 13, and proceeded to the room he had booked – the same room where the body of the unidentified woman was found with limbs cut off.

“Once guests check into the premises, they enjoy all the privileges and interference or interruption is not one of them until the checkout time arrives is when the house managers will go knocking on the doors, indicating it is time to leave the room,” Risper Muthoni’s told the press.
