Nairobi, Kenya – The Kenya National Examination Council has released the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) 2023 results.

About 1,282,574 candidates sat for the KPSEA exams in November 2023.

The KPSEA exams were not supposed to be a determinant of whether the then Grade six pupils would proceed to Junior Secondary this year or not, based on the performance of the results but instead, it was an assessment to monitor learner’s progress.

How students will get KAPSEA exam results

During the release on Friday, January 19, the KNEC boss David Njeng’ere clarified that the results would be issued in report forms.

“The learners will get individual reports and all these are going to be to be uploaded on the school portal,” Njeng’ere stated.

The KNEC CEO observed that the examination body would release three reports on KPSEA i.e. individual, school-specific and national level.

“The national report will provide feedback to educational stakeholders on areas that require intervention. It will indicate the proportion of learners at each performance level per subject where we need to do an intervention.  Each school will receive specific reports that will delineate the areas that learners had challenges so that they can continue in the journey of improvement,” he pointed out.

Njeng’ere added that the national report will be shared  with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD)

Last year, teachers made some laments on why pupils were not examined on creative writings, English Composition and Kiswahili Insha.

Which subjects were tested in KAPSEA 2023 exams?

The candidates were tested on five subjects;  Mathematics, Kiswahili, English, Integrated Science( Science and Technology, Agriculture, Home Science and Physical Health and Education)  and Social Studies ( Religious Education, Art and Craft and Music ).

All candidates who did KPSEA exams got their slots in Junior Secondary Schools, Grade Seven, which is also being hosted by their respective primary schools.

Monday this week, admission of Form One students was conducted in various Secondary Schools including a cohort of 200 who failed to sit for last year’s KCSE but were given a go-ahead by Cabinet Secretary of Education, Ezekiel Machogu.

Machogu observed that those pupils shall be given special examinations before they link to Form Three.

Parents can use the KPSEA results to transfer their children to another school in case they opt to.
