Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has said 2,000 primary school learners who did not sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam will have their slots in secondary schools this year.
Machogu was speaking during the release of KCSE results at Moi Girls Eldoret. He made it clear that the cohort of 2,000 pupils will be admitted into high school on January 15 together with those who sat for their KCPE examinations.
“Upon further scrutiny of the number of candidates who failed to sit for their examination, the council has only been able to trace 2,000 eligible learners . It has been decided that the 2,000 candidates join Form One come January 15 and be allowed to sit qualifying examinations later. “
The cabinet secretary announced that The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will give a qualifying examination for the learners before they link to Form Three to enable them to secure KCSE registration when they get to Form Four.
“They will however be advised to ensure they sit their qualifying examinations before they join Form Three to enable them to be registered to sit KCSE when they get to Form Four.”
On November 23, 2023, during the official release of KCPE 2023 results, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu revealed that 9,354 candidates who did not sit for their KCPE exams would have an opportunity to sit for special examinations this month to ensure no one from the 2023 cohort missed Form One admission.
While releasing 2023’s KCSE results, Machogu noted there was a headline improvement in every student’s performance from the 2022 class.
In KCSE results for 2023, 450,554 were male and 448,899 were female. 1,216 candidates clinched grade A, 18,078 scored B+, 78,343 scored C+, 125,006 scored D+, while 48,174 scored E.
He also called for a proper investigation of Grade E cases following a massive rise in the number of students who scored the low grade.
” I order the directorate of quality assurance to work with field officers and teachers to investigate these E Grade cases in each county of the country and submit the report to me within one month for further action.”
