Mozilla is preparing for the launch of Firefox Ad-Free Internet,a service intended to fund news outlets.
In collaboration with Scroll, the service is a third party program to help struggling publications make money. Apple News and Google News are in the same category as Mozilla’s new venture considering Apple and Google are more of tech companies and not news entities.
According to TechCrunch, the Firefox innovation will provide users with ad-free access to their favourite publications with an upfront fee of $ 5 per month.
Mozilla says, “The service enables web users to pay for an ad-free experience on their favourite sites across their devices. By enabling more direct funding of publishers, Scroll’s model may offer a compelling alternative in the ecosystem. We will be collaborating with Scroll to better understand consumer attitudes and interests towards an ad-free experience on the web as part of an alternative funding model. “
