Google has opened an artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory
in Accra, Ghana. The lab will handle different sectors in Africa economic,
political, and environmental.
At the official launch of the center, Googles’s head of the AI
project in Ghana Moustapha Cisse stated, “Africa has many challenges where the
use of AI could be beneficial…”
The new lab aims to create solutions to issues in healthcare,
agriculture and education for example diagnosing specific types of crop
disease.
Cisse, an expert from Senegal, added that Google is working
with universities and start-ups in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya to promote
AI development in the continent.
Similar AI centres have already been set up in other cities
across the globe Paris, Tokyo, New York, and Zurich included.
