World Rally Championship is in suspense following sports
suspension by the president. Corona virus has continued to hit hard on the
sports sector in the country of late following an upsurge in the number of
cases in the country
The latest is the cancellation of Machakos rally; the second
round of the Kenya National Rally Championship. The rally was due this Sunday
in Machakos.
The cancellation follows Friday’s Covid-19 address by Kenya
President Uhuru Kenyatta in which all sports activities in the country were
suspended.
There has been a huge increase in Covid-19 cases in the
Kenyan capital Nairobi and neighboring counties. A cessation of movement has
also been issues across five counties; Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Nakuru and
Kiambu.
The suspension of sports in the country comes at a time when
kenya was scheduled to host the World Rally Championship (WRC). A worry to the
athletic fraternity that was highly in wait from June 24-27 a return that will
end its close to two decades off the world status.
The Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) has also issued a
notice to all branches for the suspension of all branch leagues across the
country till further notice.
It is not yet clear of when the sporting activities will
commence again in the country following the president’s directive on his speech
today.
