The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has directed
that Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and other six county officials arrested and arraigned
in court.
According to the directive, Governor Sonko is expected to
appear before the anti-corruption court today (Friday), to answer charges of
corruption leading to the loss of Sh. 357 million.
The six City Hall officials to be arraigned alongside Sonko
include county secretary Peter Mbugua, members of the tender committee Patrick
Mwangangi, Samuel Ndung’u, Edwin Kariuki, Lawrence Mwangi, Preston Miriti among
others.
Charges
Mr Noordin said that team faces charges of conspiracy to
commit economic crime, willful failure to comply with the law and conflict of
interest.
He added that the prosecution has enough evidence to ran the
case, which were gathered by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
