Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya has announced his plans
to contest for the presidential seat come 2022.
Oparanya who doubles as the chairman council of governors
said he was better to be the next leader gauging from his development records
as the Butere Mp, Minister of planning and now governor – that have all ranked
him as the top most performing leader in the country.
He said he was prepared to resuscitate the country’s economy
from its deathbed as he has the experience in matters planning.
Oparanya also warned the sub county against allowing politicians
to traverse within in the pretext of vote hunting saying they were out to
politically enrich themselves.
The governor who has recently graduated with a PhD in economic
finance said he was going all the way to the end in his endeavors to be the next
President of the republic of Kenya.
“I have said before and let me repeat and insist that I am ready
to battle it out with the other contenders and as I know leadership is never
endorsed but one has and must fight for it and that is what I will do,” said
Governor Oparanya.
The COG Chair said he has confidence in his deputy and had
no doubt that he will assume his duties as the next Kakamega county governor.
On his part Deputy Governor Professor Philip Kutima hailed
the developmental record of the governor and requested the locals to vote for
him in the next coming polls.
“Your Governor has had a string of success following him all
through starting from planning minister that saw his ministry being declared position
one thrice in a row and when he took over our county, he has worked around to put
Kakamega on the top list of performing counties. He knows how to plan on money
issues and given a chance, he will revive the ailing economy in the country,”
said Prof. Kutima.
Kutima further expressed his interests to contest for the county
gubernatorial seat pointing out that he has been the brainchild behind the
county development success.
He added that, “Many people have shown interest to vie for
this seat but I know you have confidence in considering the dual working
relationship myself and governor has had unlike in other counties where there
has been bad relationship between the two, and it is on this note that the governor
has no doubt in passing over the leadership mantle to me and I’m only seeking for
your support when that right time comes.”
Kutima said he has all it takes to succeed Oparanya and that
he has the interests of the county at heart.
“We have leaders who are very interested in opposing my Gubernatorial
ambitions but it is you Wananchi that will vote and I know that I have been
with you all through and I’m better placed to know your problems and what solutions
to offer unlike the many others who are running for the seat because of
monetary gains. Let them know that the billions of shillings remitted to the
county each year is not personal emolument but monies meant for development
purposes,” he added.
He warned the locals to be wary of politicians who
masquerade to be in good faith to the sub county in search of votes as their integrity
is wanting.
“Be sure to scale all, those leaders coming here searching for
a soft landing only to disappoint you when they assume office and instead choose
leaders who will deliver and be held accountable when need arises,” he said.
