Azimio La Umoja Coalition leader Raila Odinga has alleged that President William Ruto wants to have a friendly judiciary by bringing back the two ex-IEBC bosses; Wafula Chebukati and Ahmed Issack Hassan respectively as judges in the Court of Appeal.
Raila who was addressing the press claimed that William Ruto’s administration has firmly believed that they have captured the Supreme Court following the recent meeting between him and Justice Martha Koome.
2027 election plans
He said the President’s script is first to put Chebukati in the Court of Appeal to prepare him for his next big role as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court before the 2027 general elections.
“Immediate former IEBC chairman Mr Wafula Chebukati and former IEBC chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan to be appointed Court of Appeal judges with Chebukati later elevated as the Chief Justice before the 2027 general elections,” Raila stated.
He accused Chief Justice Koome of accepting funds from the presidency, contrary to the Kenyan law.
“The presidency can not allocate any money to the Judiciary, Madam Koome knows this and yet willingly proceeded to associate herself with and endorsed an illegality, where Koome sought money from the State House and not from the Parliament,” he continued.
The former Prime Minister spelt out profoundly that the Constitution established the Judiciary fund which was supposed to be managed by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
“To the best of our knowledge, the Judiciary has never said that it has submitted a budget estimate to parliament and it was rejected. We have not seen any petition of the Judiciary to parliament over submitted rejection of budget estimate if any,” he pointed out.
While reiterating his earlier stance, saying the meeting President Ruto held in State House with the Supreme Court was ill-advised, Kenyans have not been told what transpired in the meeting.
Martha Koome meets William Ruto
Odinga claims that Justice Martha Koome and President William Ruto made a concurrence after accepting additional funding from the Judiciary that the CJ to advertise additional vacant slots of five High Court judges and eleven Court of Appeal judges.
“At the meeting, the Chief Justice and Mr Ruto reached an agreement that Mr Ruto to provide additional funding to the Judiciary, in return for this additional funding, Koome to advertise vacancies for five additional High Court judges and eleven Court of Appeal judges, ” Raila said.
The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader issued a stern warning that the script President William Ruto has rolled out is dangerous for the country.
