The Jubilee Party has removed errant senators from key
committees and replaced them with those believed to be loyal.
The newly appointed Majority Whip Senator Irungu Kang’ata announced
the changes on Tuesday where Bomet Senator Christopher Lang’at has been
replaced by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja at the House Business Committee.
Lang’at has also lost his education committee chairman post to Senator Alice
Milgo.
On the other hand, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been
removed as chairman of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee. Besides, Meru
Senator Mithika Linturi has lost membership at the Senate County Public
Accounts and Investment Committee, with his position being given to Senator
Fatuma Dullo.
Jubilee’s axe does not end there. John Kinyua has lost his
post as the chairman of the Devolution Committee.
However, former Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen
will now be a member of the Devolution Committee.
Kang’ata said the changes have been communicated to the
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka for immediate implementation.
This comes barely a week after Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure
Kindiki was ousted as the deputy senate speaker last Friday. Of the total 67
senators, 54 supported the motion to kick out Kindiki accusing him of being
disloyal the Jubilee Party and disrespectful to the party leader.
Seven senators who voted against the removal of Kindiki as
deputy speaker were Kipchumba Murkomen, Christopher Lang’at, Aaron Cheruiyot, Susan
Kihika, Samson Cherargey, John Kinyua, and Kindiki himself.
