Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kangata is today (Tuesday)
tabling a motion that will see the ouster of Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki and
other house committee senators said to have skipped President Uhuru Kenyatta’s
Parliamentary Group meeting at State House last week.
But members attached to Deputy President William Ruto camp
are taking out on Senator Kangata, threatening to challenge the move by the
President to clean up the party.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Uasin Gishu Woman
Rep. Gladys Boss Shollei challenged the Majority Whip to disclose the notice leading to
the meeting, threatening to mobilize other members and challenge the move.
“First of all, when you want to go into coalition you must
consult the members of the party, even if you want to call a parliamentary
group meeting, you cannot call it the day before in the afternoon and tell them
to show up.”
However, Senator Kangata fails to disclose when the notice
was sent.
She goes on blaming the Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju
over the rift in Jubilee, claiming that the cleanup evidently targets DP
William Ruto’s allies.
“It is very clear they are pushing out are those that are
allies to the Deputy President. Tell Raphael Tuju to stop lying to Kenyans, we
know exactly what he is doing and who he is being used by.”
President Uhuru Kenyatta made ousted senate Majority Leader
Kipchumba Murkomen and Majority Whip Susan Kihiga during a parliamentary group
meeting held at State House a week ago.
The meeting was attended by 22 senators, which senator
Murkomen claim did not reach the threshold to strike a coalition.
And now, senator Irungu Kangata is on course cleaning up the
party, starting with those said to have skipped the meeting.
