TRANS NZOIA, Kenya – The political supremacy between the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K party) leader Eugene Wamalwa and his second party leader George Natembeeya continues to brew a storm as the 2027 General Election draws near.
This, even as DAP-K Secretary-General Dr. Eseli Simiyu acknowledged receiving various petitions to remove the party’s leadership, including Wamalwa and Natembeya.
While reacting to the unfolding political developments, Trans Nzoia County Hospital Ward MCA Eric Wafula poured cold water on Simiyu’s moves, terming them as ‘dead on arrival’.
“I was shocked this morning when I heard Eseli Simiyu speaking on one of the local radio stations that our governor, who doubles as our presidential candidate, is moving with speed. But I believe his speed has scared them. But I want to tell Eseli that the speed and the behaviour that they have come with from Ford Kenya are throwing loyal members out of the party, and that the political landscape has changed,” said Wafula.

The agitated former minority leader in the Trans Nzoia reiterated that the area DAP-K MCAs are now aligned to Gen Zs.
“At the moment, we speak our mind. I want to remind Eseli that there was no election where we elected you to represent all of you and other officials on DAP-K. We need the NEC to meet and give us the way forward by solving this current stalemate, mate, which involves Eugene and Natembeya. For some of us, we are firmly in the party, and if push comes to shove, we are going to convene a delegates conference as members since we only have two years to the next elections,” said the vocal MCA.
Wafula, a DAP-K party member and a close ally of Governor Natembeya, maintained that there is a need for the Azimio-aligned party to resolve its internal issues.
“We only have a few days left before the Malava by-election. To Eugene, engage your team, and Eseli, hold your horses for the meantime, so that we put everything in line,” Wafula fired back at Eseli during a press conference in Kitale town.
Early August 2025, the DAP-K party resolved to refer all disputes to its internal Dispute Resolution Committee, following reports of growing divisions that had resulted in the merger of two rival factions within the party.
Analysts claim that Governor Natembeya, serving his first term in office, is leading the liberal faction that seeks to rebrand the party to have a ‘national appeal’.
On the other hand, Eugene is reportedly leading the Conservative wing, which favours maintaining the party’s current structure and direction.
