President William Ruto has made changes to various state bodies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board.

In a gazette notice, Ruto named Hadi Sheikh Abdullahi, Richard Boro Ndun’gu, Lydia Cherono Rono, and Amolo Ngweno as members of the board of directors of KRA. They will serve from December 15, 2023, to January 12, 2026.

With these appointments, Ruto revoked the appointments of Wilkister M. Simiyu, Fancy C. Too, Michael Kamau Kamiru, Darshan Shah, and Samir Ibrahim, which were made by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u in January 2023.

KRA’s revenue collection progress

KRA targets to collect Ksh 2.768 trillion for the current financial year 2023/2024

The authority hit the 1 trillion mark in revenue collection after amassing Ksh 1.030 trillion as of December 8, 2023.

In a statement, KRA noted that it has ‘maintained an upward trajectory in revenue collection, after recording a 15.8% growth in November. This is after it collected Ksh 180.714 billion up from Ksh 156.095 billion collected in November 2022’.

The authority also added that,

“Revenue collection has progressively increased in the last 5 months (July to November 2023/2024) after KRA collected Ksh 963.756 billion compared to Ksh 856.646 billion collected in the same period last financial year, representing a growth of 12.5%.”

Ruto’s other appointments

The president also appointed Shallow Abdullahi Yahya to be the chairperson of the National Drought Management Authority and he will assume the role effective December 15 for two years.

The notice read,

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint—Shallow Abdullahi Yahya to be the Chairperson of the National Drought Management Authority, with effect from December 15, 2023, up to July 12, 2025.”

Yahya’s appointment revoked that of Raphael Mullei Nzomo.

Ruto also appointed Michael Kamau Kamiru to be the chairperson of the board of directors of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority and he will serve for three years with effect from December 15, 2023.

Cabinet secretaries have also made appointments. The Energy and Petroleum CS Davis Chirchir appointed Magerer Lang’at, Joseph Ngugi Njenga, and Amina Bille to be members of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya Board for three years.

Additionally, Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs CS Salim Mvurya has appointed Patrick Lumumba Ligami to the Artisanal Mining Committee of Kakamega County.
