Deputy President Dr. William Ruto has said that the
ministry of education will carry out an audit to ascertain the safety of all
school buildings countrywide.

The DP said this at the Kenyatta National Hospital
where he visited pupils of Precious Talent Academy nursing injuries after a
tragic wall accident on Monday.

“The Ministry of Education will carry out an audit
to ascertain the safety of all school buildings countrywide to avert incidents
that put the lives of learners at risk.” said DP Ruto.

He added that schools should ensure that safety
standards and conducive learning environment are set to enable pupils concentrate
on their studies.

“We must ensure a conducive learning experience for
our children, including laying proper infrastructure and enhancing safety
standards. Learners should concentrate on class work and not worry for their
safety.” he added.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha also noted
that there has been little effort by stakeholders to ensure safety standards
and environment in schools, adding that his ministry will ensure that is
adhered to.

The incident which occurred at 6.45 am in the
morning saw at least seven pupils die as 64 others taken to hospital.

The CS add that the school has been closed for four
days to give room for investigation and ensure the safety of the pupils.
