Tension is high at Ndooni Primary School in Mutitu Kitui
County after a female teacher was killed and set on fire by irate parents.

Madam Daisy Mbathe Mbaluka met her death on Monday morning
when she reported back to school for the reopening of the first term, and found furious
parents camping at the school gate, demanding for the transfer of all teachers
over what they termed as poor results.

The school was shut down immediately after the incident,
with the Kenya National union of Teachers (KNUT) executive Secretary Kitui,
condemning the heinous act.

The school head teacher Dickson Musya recorded a statement confirming
the incident, calling on the authorities’ speedy action for killers to be
brought to book.

In a statement sent to newsroom, KNUT Secretary General
Wilson Sossion condemned the brutal murder of Ms. Mbaluka, calling on th
ministry of Education to act promptly and offer maximum security to teachers.

“We call on the ministry of Education and Interior to act
promptly and offer maximum security to teachrs and school properties before the
situation runs out of control,” said Sossion.

Sossion also called on the police and relevant
administration to act with speed in ensuring that the perpetrators of violence
on teachers are brought to book, with the Kitui incident serving as an example.

“Parents who killed Mbaluka should be investigated, arrested,
charged and convicted according to the law,” he said.

He also urged teachers to be steadfast and remain patriotic
while on duty, upholding the ethics of the teaching profession.

The SG added that cases of parents molesting and in some
extreme cases killing teachers have been on the rise, causing anxiety and poor service
delivery among teachers.

“We have witnessed such ugly incidences in areas of North
Eastern, North Rift, Western Region and South Nyanza, which needs to be dealt
with, leaving no stone unturned.”
