Leaders affiliated with The Azimio La Umoja Coalition have continued to oppose President William Ruto’s recent remarks on corruption in the  Judiciary and increased taxation in the county.

They stated that come rain or sunshine, they will not accept the independence of the Judiciary to be interfered with.

Speaking at a funeral during the burial of the late Joshua Muia Kitivi in Kyuluni village, in Machakos County, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka expressed his dislike for Williams Ruto’s sentiments that there are few elements in the Judiciary who are derailing government agendas.

The Wiper Leader highlighted that the opposition will not sit back and relax as the State intimidates the Judiciary.

” On Tuesday,  Wiper NEC will meet to show direction. As a Senior Council and Kenyan advocates , we will stand to protect our courts. Executive, Legislature and Judiciary should be respected by all, ” Kalonzo pointed out .

Reactions on increased taxes

Speaking in Gem Constituency, Siaya County, Azimio Leader Raila Odinga accused President Ruto of imposing hefty taxes on Kenyans, saying soon members of the public would turn their back on him.

Odinga’s point of view was reiterated by Ugunja legislator Opiyo Wandayi who stated that the taxes Kenyans are paying must be channeled to development projects.

“As President Ruto continues to over tax Kenyans, he has an obligation to ensure those taxes are utilized properly.”

Siaya Governor, James Orengo was also on the same page with other Azimio leaders on criticizing President’s innuendos, saying Ruto has placed much load on Kenyans.

Orengo lamented that William Ruto’s remarks on the Judiciary are unsupportable and uncalled for.

” The worst part of it is the onslaught of the Judiciary, it is unfortunate and reckless.”

Orengo was speaking in Meru County at the funeral of the late Kathleen Nkatha at Naari Location in Buuri, accompanied by one of 2022’s presidential candidates Jimi Wanjigi.

On his part, Wanjigi claimed that if Ruto’s government is not watchful, then there will be a massive nosedive of the economy in the country at a close of six months.

” We are headed to total collapse of the economy if the regime will continue overtaxing Kenyans.”
