Two national holidays have been approved and renamed by the
cabinet, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Moi Day, celebrated on October 10, has been approved and
renamed to Huduma Day, in line with the former President Daniel Arap Moi
desire.
The day caused debate after it was left out from national
celebration days, prompting court actions that have since seen it celebrated.
Moi wanted the day be commemorated as a day of service and
volunteerism.
Another holiday that has been renamed by the cabinet is the
Boxing Day, which is celebrated on December 26. The cabinet renames the day ‘Utamaduni
Day’.
Boxing day is celebrated after Christmas day, with families,
friends coming together.
According to the new naming, the day will see culture and societal values
natured through talents in the whole country.
