The government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Lands and Housing, has asked Kenyans across the country to buy ready residential units in Bondeni, Nakuru County.
The finished units were constructed under President William Ruto’s affordable housing project.

Members of the public who are willing to buy are first required to visit the Boma Yangu portal online and complete the registration process.
A two-bedroom house measuring 64 square metres goes for Ksh.3.15 million whereas Ksh.4.24 million is the price of a three-bedroom unit measuring 85 square metres. This is according to the advertisement made on Tuesday by the Ministry of Lands and Housing.

Kenyans interested in the units will give a deposit of 10% for them to be eligible for the purchase and thereafter will have to pay a monthly rate of Ksh.16,997 and Ksh.22,933 for two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses respectively.
President Ruto’s regime is aiming to see over 6.5 million Kenyans living in slums and informal settlements get affordable housing.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammad has said the government is keen on creating a new generation of homeowners under the umbrella of the Housing Programme, where every year, 250, 000 houses are to be brought to people who earn low wages.
” The President has already commissioned 1,785 in Mukuru, Rongai, and Kibera to ease the housing burden affecting low-income earners,” the spokesprson stated in a past event.
He also made it clear that additional construction of 28,942 units is ongoing in various parts of the country.
However, the affordable housing project in November last year received a blow when the courts termed the housing levy unconstitutional, although the government was allowed to continue deducting the tax from Kenyans.
President Ruto, speaking at a past event on June 3, 2023, said the housing project would contribute to ending the vicious unemployment cycle in the county.
” We have to be intentional, deliberate, and practical if we have to address problems facing our people. You all know that a country like Singapore which was at the same level as Kenya sometimes back had to make bold decisions to be where it is today in terms of development.”
On January 7, 2024, President Ruto called for a serious collaboration between the three arms of government rather than participating in disputes to ensure the country’s economy takes an upward trajectory.
