As the world reports over one million
Covid-19 infections, a six-year old male patient at Kenyatta National Hospital
(KNH) has died after contracting the virus.

During the daily ministry of health
briefings, it was revealed that the boy had an existing health condition called
immunosuppression that affects the bone marrow.

His death brings the Coronavirus
death toll in Kenya to four. The health workers who attended to the child have
been placed in quarantine, patients that were around him moved somewhere else,
and the area disinfected.

However, in the last 24 hours, 12 more
people have tested positive for the virus, which raises the number of those
infected in the country to 122. Nine out of the 12 are people in mandatory quarantine.
Of the 12 cases, 11 are Kenyans while one is a Somali national.

The government has so for tested
1,433 people in mandatory quarantine and the remaining 617 are yet to be
tested.

About local production of
protective gear, the Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Industrialization Betty
Maina stated that one million masks are available, and what remains is distribution.
She added that local manufacturers have also made protective gowns for health
care providers to keep them safe as they attend to Covid-19 patients.

The CS said that the products have
met the required manufacturing perimeters, adding that they are cheaper than imported
masks and PPEs. She said that a mask should not cost more than Ksh 20, and
urged Kenyans to ensure they buy a mask with three layers for guaranteed protection.

About ventilators, she explained that
they are in the process of starting to make them in the country to boost Kenya’s
preparedness to combat Covid-19.
