Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba
Murkomen has appointed Captain William Kipkemboi Ruto as the new managing
director for Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
In a press release the CS said, “In pursuant to and in accordance
with the powers conferred to me under Section 5 (1) of the Kenya Ports
Authority, Cap 391, and further in consultation with the board of directors, I have
this morning appointed Captain William Kipkemboi Ruto as the managing director
of the Kenya Ports Authority for a period of three years effective immediately.”
The position has been vacant for the past three years with the
KPA board of directors making appointments to the position in acting capacity. The
board carried out a recruitment process from 23rd December, 2022 to
fill the position and today morning presented a report to the cabinet secretary
recommending the appointment of Captain Ruto.
The captain holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Strategic Management option from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture
and Technology (JKUAT). He a seasoned mariner having started his career in 1991
at KPA as a cadet marine deck officer before rising through the ranks to be a
general manager, operations and later a harbor master. Until his appointment,
he was the general manager of the Kisumu Port.
“I congratulate the new managing director and assure him of
the government’s support in the management of the Kenya Ports Authority,” the
CS added. The appointment has been made official in the Kenya Gazette notice.
