KAJIADO, Kenya – Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has sent a strong warning to investors who have bought the government’s affordable houses build on grabbed land.
Gachagua who spoke when he attended a church service and ordination ceremony of Rev. Joseph Mburu at PCEA Ongata Rongai Church in Kajiado County warned that such investors risks losing the parcels of land.
“To unsuspecting investors who have to bought 2,000 houses built on the PCEA church’s grabbed land, let me warn you in advance please don’t lose your money,” Gachagua said.
According to the former deputy president, the country is headed to a general election and the incoming government will reposes such parcels of land.
“We are headed to a general election in 2027 and there will be a new government. These parcels of land will be forcefully taken away by the new regime and we shall hand it back to the rightful owners and if you have bought those houses you will lose it,” explained Gachagua.
He claimed that the new government will form a team of individuals who will be charged with collecting the rent.
“For instance, PCEA has a title deed to its parcels of land and there is no dispute about it,” he stated.
President William Ruto who has since fallen out with his former deputy maintains that Affordable Housing Financing will give ordinary citizens the opportunity to become homeowners.
What the Affordable Housing Programme means to Kenyans
The head of state said the project will have two components, social housing and affordable housing, to ensure all Kenyans benefit from the programme.
The President observed that low-income earners will pay an interest rate of as low as 3 per cent a year as compared to the market rate of 18% annually.
“We have an opportunity in our lifetime to change and transform Kenya,” he said.
The Head of State made the remarks during the groundbreaking of the 2,000-unit-Mzizima Affordable Housing Phase I and 1,400-unit-Buxton Point Affordable Housing Phase 2 in Mvita, Mombasa County.
The president also handed over the Buxton Point Affordable Housing Phase I to its new owners.
