The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has made
it clear that the Deputy President William Ruto called him saying his life was
in danger.
This comes after the DCI summoned four cabinet secretaries on
Monday over an alleged assassination ploy targeting the DP.
Kinoti spoke to Citizen TV stating that DP Ruto called him
with concerns that his life was in danger, which led to the summoning of the CSs.
Three CSs Peter Munya (Trade), Sicily Kariuki (Health), and
Joseph Mucheru (ICT) made it to the DCI headquarters except James Macharia (Transport).
They gave a press statement outside the offices refuting the allegations of
planning to assassinate the deputy president to prevent him from vying for
presidency in the forthcoming elections.
Earlier on a letter circulated about an alleged meeting at
Hotel La Mada on Thika Road with the DP as the main subject.
Speaking on behalf of the summoned CSs, Munya stated that, “These
are very serious allegations coming from the person of stature of the deputy president
occupying an extremely powerful and important office.”
The secretaries held
their ground saying the clams were wild and unsubstantiated, adding that the DP
should have done a better job than make a call.
