The winner of the 2019 Beyond Zero Marathon is David Bett who
has walked away with Sh 250,000 after completing the 21km half marathon at
Nyayo Stadium. The second and third winners were awarded Sh 125,000 and Sh
75,000 respectively.
In the 10km road race, the top three finishers will get Sh
100,000, Sh 60,000, and Sh40,000 respectively.
The event comprises of various categories including 21km half
marathon, 10km road race, 5km family race, wheelchair and tricycle race and
this year’s included a special 2km walk for expectant women.
The marathon
The Beyond Zero Initiative has used the half marathon as the
anchor fundraising platform, raising funds and resources to bring to focus key
challenges facing Kenyans especially woman and children.
Among the prominent personalities that took part in the event
are First Lady Margret Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, Sports Cabinet
Secretary Amina Mohamed, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegn
who flagged off the 21k half marathon, and Central Bank Governor Patrick Njoroge.
Beyond Zero
Launched in 2014 by First Lady Margret Kenyatta, Beyond Zero is a charity organization
inspired by the realization and knowledge that maternal and children deaths are
preventable.
Beyond Zero is a call to action for policy prioritization and
formulation, increased resource allocation, improved service delivery, and better
individual health-seeking behaviours and practices.
