Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi
Kagwe has sent message to employers and landlords even as the country continues
to fight the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on Monday at Afia House
Nairobi, during the daily briefing of the state of COVID-19, CS Kagwe called on
employers to ensure there is food at the table of their employees.

“Despite this tough times, make
sure that your employee has something to put food on the table for the family.
Send some amount to enable them buy food from available stalls,” said CS Kagwe.

He added that, although the
employees are currently home employers need to understand that they are
worthwhile for their business growth, and should not forget them during this
difficult times.

To landlords, the CS urged them to
be understanding and reach into a mutual understanding with the tenants.

“Landlords should not throw out
their tenants. They should reach to an agreement with them which will result to
an amicable solution of paying rent until the COVID-19 pandemic is contained in
the country,” he said.

He urged banks and the tax man to
waive or issue relief to house owners so that they also may be able to allow
tenants time to pay their rent.

COVID-19 cases in the country
continue to surge with 11 new confirmed cases as at April 13, raising the
number of infections to 208.

Kenya has tested over 8000 samples
in the past one months, with the total number of infections standing at 208,
those recovering from the infection totaling to 40 as the death toll tally to
at least 9.

Kenyans have been advised to work
at home, with a majority of them losing jobs to the COVID-19 effect to the
economy.
