Bomet County Assembly Members are now left with the task of
approving Governor Hillary Barchok nominee for the position of Deputy Governor.
This follows the Governor’s letter to the county assembly
dated November 12, submitting County Assembly Speaker David Rotich as his
nominee for the appointment of Deputy Governor.
“Pursuant to the Supreme Court Advisory opinion in the
matter of re Speaker, County Assembly of Embu (Reference Number 1 of 2015), I
hereby forward, for the County Assembly’s approval, the following nominee for
the position of Deputy Governor. –David Shadrack Rotich, ID No. 0446747, “ read
the letter in part.
The Deputy Governorship post fell vacant following Governor
Barchok’s assumption of office after the demise of the late Governor Joyce Laboso
in July.
Big question
However, the big question is will David Shadrack Rotich
Nomination get a green light in the Bomet County Assembly?
Early expectations and advice from leaders pointed the
position to a female candidate, with the council of governors proposing it as
an honour to the late governor.
“It is the wish and request of the council that you pick a
female deputy in honour of the late Governor Laboso, and also to support and
push for gender parity in the country,” said the CoG.
Those in speculation were the County Chief of Staff Jayne
Sigilai, Laboso’s sister Judy Laboso, former Woman Rep Cecilia Ngetich, former
senatorial aspirant Stacy Chepkemoi, and Education Executive Juliana Yegon.
