Azimio leader Raila Amollo Odinga has been prevented from
accessing the DCI headquarters in Nairobi where the former interior cabinet
secretary Fred Matiang’i is being grilled on allegations that the police raided
his Karen home.
Matiang’i arrived at the DCI offices in the morning but had
to wait for ten minutes to be let in. The former cabinet secretary travelled to
the UK on February 19 to attend to a family matter according to his lawyer
Danstan Omari.
The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) is also
looking into the former secretary’s worth since he took public office in 2013.
The government and opposition have been in a back and forth exchange of words
with the Azimio leader criticizing the government for using state authorities for
political reasons.
The former cabinet secretary’s home was allegedly raided on
the night of February 9 by the police, claims that the DCI refuted saying they
were a stage-managed occurrence aimed to spread false information about the government
and incite public fear.
