The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Ann Amadi has retired after 10 years of service.
In a handover ceremony held at Milimani Law Courts and presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome, Hon Amadi passed the reigns to Hon Paul Ndemo, who will be the acting Chief Registrar of the Judiciary (CRJ) until the position is filled.
Amadi was appointed Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on January 13, 2014.
Among her career highlights, Amadi has sworn in two presidents of Kenya, William Ruto in 20222 and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.
Who is Ann Amadi?
Hon Ann Atieno Amadi has been an advocate of the High Court of Kenya since 1989.
She joined the judicial service as a District Magistrate II (Prof.) in 1990 and rose through the ranks to become a Resident Magistrate before joining private legal practice as Sole Proprietor at A.A. Amadi & Co. Advocates between 1997 and 2003.
Between 2003 and 2008, Mrs Amadi served as the Deputy Executive Director and Head of Litigation at the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kenya, a women’s rights organization in Kenya whose core business is the provision of legal aid services to women with financial constraints.
Between 2008 and 2011, she served as the former National Coordinator of the National Legal Aid and Awareness Programme in Kenya under the Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion, and Constitutional Affairs.
The programme targets to improve access to justice for the poor, marginalized and vulnerable in society.
Amadi also trains and practices Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), mediation in particular.
Until her appointment as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on January 13, 2014, Amadi was working as a consultant.
Education
Amadi holds a Masters in Criminal Justice from Boston University in the USA, a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Nairobi, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law.
She also holds additional two post graduate diplomas, one in Alternative Dispute Resolution from California State University and another in Law of Internal Displacement from the Institute of International Humanitarian Law in San Remo, Italy.
