The World Health Organization (WHO) is facing international
probe over the Coronavirus pandemic response.
The European Union is the resent to join WHO member
countries calling for an independent evaluation of the organization’s response
the pandemic.
According to google news, the EU said it wants to “to review
experience gained and lessons learned” by WHO.
The countries resolve to discuss the review this week at the
decision-making body of the UN health agency virtual meeting.
The member states intend to initiate a stepwise process of
impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation of the WHO’s efforts to
coordinate the international response to COVID-19.
The move comes amid Australia’s call for an independent
inquiry into the origins of the pandemic and the WHO’s response to it.
The US President Donald Trump had also repeated accusations
that the WHO helped China cover up the extent of the initial COVID-19 outbreak,
calling for an immediate halt to all US funding to the UN health agency.
EU proposes that the independent evaluation should be
initiated “at the earliest appropriate moment” to examine “the actions of WHO
and their timelines pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
WHO announced the coronavirus outbreak to be a global health
emergency on January 30.
