Lagos, which is Nigeria’s capital and among Africa’s largest
Cities is facing tough times following the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to AFP, the city could return to lockdown to halt
the coronavirus if residents continue to ignore social distancing rules.

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Monday that the
move by residents to flout social distancing rules could cost them dearly,
after a five-week stay at home order.

The government eased the curb last Monday, urging people to
continue observing social distancing, but residents have been seen gathering in
markets and banks.

“It is disappointing to see crowds at banks and markets
across the state flouting the guidelines. “We’ll be forced to take the painful
decision of bringing the state under lockdown if it remains clear that
Lagosians are determined to flout the rules.”

The country, which is Africa’s most populated, has confirmed
3,912 covid-19 infections with death toll standing at 117 people.

Lagos city is the main hotspot with daily increase in
recorded cases doubled in the past few days.

Sanwo-Olu said that Lagos state would change its “isolation
strategy” and that district healthcare facilities would handle
“mild-to-moderate” cases.

Part of measures introduced in place of the total lockdown
include a night-time curfew and the mandatory wearing of masks in public.

Covid-19 cases across the world continue to surge with 4.12 infections
currently confirmed with the death toll standing at 288,000.
