Two civilians were also killed and eight others officers injured in the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville accident.

The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan police officer serving in the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti following a road traffic accident.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at around 5:00 p.m. Haitian time (2:00 a.m. Kenyan time, Monday, Sept 1), along Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area.

According to NPS, MSS officers were involved in a tragic road accident during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles.

The accident also claimed the lives of two civilians and left eight other MSS officers injured. Three of the injured officers are reported to be in serious condition and are currently receiving medical care at a local hospital.

“The National Police Service extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the fallen officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow,” the NPS said in a statement signed by Director of Corporate Communication, Mung’eri Nyaga.

The MSS, working with the Haitian National Police (HNP), is making arrangements to repatriate the officer’s body to Kenya. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to ensure the injured personnel receive the best possible medical attention.

Kenya has been leading the multinational peacekeeping mission in Haiti, aimed at restoring stability in the Caribbean nation plagued by insecurity and gang violence.

The NPS reiterated its commitment to the mission, saying it remains dedicated to establishing lasting peace and security for the people of Haiti.
