A child rapper from Uganda by the name Patrick Ssenyonjo
alias Fresh Kid has to stop rapping or risk going to jail.
Youth minister Florence Nakiwala has reiterated that the
7-year-old needs to quit rapping and focus on school or risk going to juvenile
prison.
The minister was speaking to Uganda’s NBS channel after claims that
Fresh Kid was busy performing at concerts at night instead of going to school something
the minister said is child labor.
She said, “The constitution clearly states that no one under
the age of 18 is allowed to work therefore Fresh Kid should not be working
rather be in school.”
She continued to say, “Anyone found aiding his music career
will have to face the law as well.”
Fresh Kid’s manager Francis Kamoga refuted the allegations
saying that the boy was attending school adding that he only performs during the
weekend and does not get paid for it therefore he is not considered to be working.
Kamoga made it clear that, “I discovered him in a rural
village miming some songs brought him to the city and started paying his school
fees.”
