The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has urged
parents, the media and all film stakeholders to be careful of the type of
content shown to children during this festive season.

Speaking during a press conference, KFCB CEO Dr. Ezekiel
Mutua said children holds the country’s future and if taught and raised in good
environment, the country will be lead in a better direction.

He warned against showing obscene and vulgar content on TV’s
and mobile phones, saying it may derail the morals of the youth and the future
leaders.

“I call upon parents to be keen on the kind of content they
introduce to their children, especially during this holiday season, to ensure
they watch obscene and violence free content,” said Mutua

Dr. Mutua also called upon the media and other film
stakeholders to offer adequate education to parents and guardians who are not
aware of obscene content distribution to yound ones.

“Members of the fourth estate should educate parents and guardians
on best content to be shown to children,” added Dr. Mutua.

Clean content ambassador

The CEO said this during the unveiling of KFCB Nairobi region
clean content ambassador, nominated to lead counties of Kiambu, Machakos,
Nairobi, Makueni and Kajiado.

KFCB settled on singer and music producer Tobias Mulwa alias
Toby Bisengo of Elvas Media to nature and mentor talent to young and upcoming
artists, in ensuring clean, obscene free content coverage in the field of film
making.

Dr. Mutua said KFCB arrived on this approach after finding
out that most Kenyan secular artists have resorted to producing obscene, vulgar
and violence content, in order to drive more traffic, which is against the law.

“We sought to identify artistes that would change the
narrative that content has to be dirty, sexualized or vulgar for it to sell.”

The clean content ambassador was awarded Ksh. 1 million as
an appreciation for producing and encouraging clean content in the film
industry.

“As a producer, I thought it a noble thing to come up with
music that is clean, free from vulgar, obscene and violence content. I am happy
and grateful for KFCB , for identifying my efforts,” said Mr. Tobias Mulwa.
