Flying Squad officers earlier today found fake dollars that
equate to Ksh 2billion at Barclays Bank Queensway Branch in Nairobi in a
customer’s safe deposit box.
According to the official statement from the banks
management, it confirms that, “Police have taken in the customer for further questioning.
The customer had concealed fake currency in his personal safe deposit box against
the bank’s rules and regulations which include restrictions of items which can
be held in the safe deposit box.”
The bank added that it offers safe deposit boxes for customers
but the “contents of the personal boxes are not part of the bank’s deposits and
are only known to the client.”
Banks provide safe boxes for clients to keep items such as
title deeds, insurance policies, jewelry, and foreign currency.
This comes barely a month after Special Crimes Prevention Unit
seized fake currencies in Ruiru, which were packed in metal boxes.
