Equity Bank, Unilever partners for KSh 2.4b SME financing

Small and medium enterprises in Kenya will receive over KSh 2.4 billion in financing from Unilever and Equity Bank for distribution efficiency.

This is after Equity and Unilever partnered to offer a Distributor Financing Solution, designed to strengthen manufacturing supply chains, improve product availability, and accelerate growth across the markets.

The financing will help SMEs fuel sustainable growth in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturing sector.

According to a press statement seen by News 9 Kenya, the bank will provide tailored working capital financing to Unilever’s distributors, enabling them to access credit, improve stock availability, and expand their reach into underserved markets.

Equity Bank Kenya Managing Director Moses Nyabanda explained that the strategic partnership will empower consumers, businesses and communities.

“This collaboration with Unilever allows us to extend affordable, accessible credit to traders who form our key drivers of Kenya’s economy and with Equity’s reach across all 47 counties, we’re positioned to scale this quickly. Manufacturing is a vital pillar of Kenya’s economy, accounting for 7.8% of the national GDP. We are proud to partner with Unilever to offer tailored distributor financing solutions,” said Nyabanda.

Nyabanda added that the initiative fosters inclusive economic growth by channelling capital to where it’s needed most.

Unilever East Africa Managing Director Luck Ochieng said the partnership will empower its business partners, easing access to affordable financing, building capacity, and unlocking new commercial opportunities.
