A Kenyan athlete got engagement proposal after finishing fourth in women's elite race of the Great North Run in Newcastle.

Magdalyne Masai was shocked when Jake Robertson took to his knees on the finish line and proposed to her.

Masai was overwhelmed by cheers from the crowd and did not hesitate to say 'Yes' to her lover, despite having finished last.

The New Zealand athletic star (Jake) got extra cheers, applause from the crowd and his fans.

"In the last mile it just randomly came to my mind that today was the day.” exclaimed Jake.

He finished six second behind Mo Fara who won the Great North title for a fourth successive competition.

Meanwhile, Kenya's Mary Keitany won the elite women's with the third fastest time in

its history as Vivian Cheruiyot came second and fellow countrywoman Caroline Kipkirui came third.
