2 security officers killed by gunmen in a church attack, Kwale county

Two security officers have been shot dead by four gunmen at St Paul's ACK Church in Ukunda, Kwale County on Sunday.

The two officers were manning the church when the incident occurred at around 10.30am.

Kwale County Commissioner Katswa Olaka said the assailants took with them two rifles belonging to the officers and sped away on a motorcycle after the heinous act.

Mr Olaka said one officer succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Mombasa hospital while the other died while receiving treatment at Diani Beach Hospital.

He said that security personnel has been deployed in the area and a manhunt has been launched to nab the murderers.

Mr Olaka said that 10 congregators suffered minor injuries in the skirmish adding that members of the public to voluntarily avail information to the police to help nab and bring to book the culprits.

Kwale governor Salim Mvurya visited the scene and said that that was an isolated case and has no in any way religious affiliations.
